A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of HTWU equipment in high-temperature water heating. High-temperature water flows through the tube side, so the heads rather than the shell set the pressure limit. Dimensionally it is a 12-inch shell unit, 120-inch shell length, and roughly 126 inches overall in a 6-pass arrangement. That works out to about 174 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. That combination is cataloged as HTWU1210-64. Standard construction uses cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Operating limits are 150 PSI on the shell side, 400 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature.
