A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of SU/WU equipment in steam-to-liquid heating. Steam condenses in the single-pass shell while the heated fluid travels the tubes. Dimensionally it is a 12-inch shell unit, 36-inch shell length, and roughly 41-1/2 inches overall in a 6-pass arrangement. That works out to about 50 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. On the ratings side, expect 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. This build is designated SU123-6. Typical duty includes instantaneous domestic water heating, swimming pool heating, and building comfort heating.
