An atmospheric air gap between the inner and outer tube vents any breach to the outside, giving a visible telltale leak instead of silent mixing. Physically, the unit runs a 6-inch shell, 36-inch shell length in a 2-pass arrangement. It carries 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Material selection covers cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper (double wall) tubes, and naval brass tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. Common applications are health care and institutional plumbing, food and beverage process heating, and domestic hot water where codes require double-wall separation.
