A removable U-tube bundle gives HTWU47-24 the thermal and mechanical margin expected of HTWU equipment in high-temperature water heating. High-temperature water flows through the tube side, so the heads rather than the shell set the pressure limit. Physically, the unit runs a 4-inch shell, 84-inch shell length, and roughly 88-5/8 inches overall in a 2-pass arrangement. That works out to about 16.3 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Standard construction uses cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 400 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. Common applications are industrial process heating, campus and district energy systems, and converter duty on HTHW loops.
