Configured for liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling, this configuration carries the removable U-tube bundle construction that defines the SU/WU range. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Physically, the unit runs a 18-inch shell, 96-inch shell length, and roughly 113-1/2 inches overall in a 4-pass arrangement. That works out to about 387 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. As furnished, materials include cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 125 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. The series sees regular use in condensate cooling, oil cooling and snow melting, and pool and storage-tower heating. This build is designated WU188-412.
