A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of SU/WU equipment in liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Physically, the unit runs a 16-inch shell, 108-inch shell length, and roughly 117-3/4 inches overall in a 4-pass arrangement. That works out to about 327 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. As furnished, materials include cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. Operating limits are 150 PSI on the shell side, 125 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. This build is designated WU169-45. Typical duty includes hydronic HVAC converters, oil cooling and snow melting, and pool and storage-tower heating.
