A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of SU/WU equipment in liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Dimensionally it is a 14-inch shell unit, 48-inch shell length, and roughly 57-1/2 inches overall in a 6-pass arrangement. It carries 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. That combination is cataloged as WU144-64. Standard construction uses cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. Operating limits are 150 PSI on the shell side, N/A on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. Common applications are pool and storage-tower heating, oil cooling and snow melting, and hydronic HVAC converters.
