Configured for compressed air aftercooling, this configuration carries the fixed-tubesheet bundle construction that defines the ACFR aftercooler range. Compressed air passes through the tubes against cooling water in the baffled shell, and the tube interiors clean easily from either end. The configuration measures 3-1/2 inches across the shell, 50-inch shell length, and roughly 50 inches overall in a 1-pass arrangement. That works out to about 4.2 square feet of heat transfer surface on 1/4-inch O.D. tubes. That combination is cataloged as 5-005-03-050-005. As furnished, materials include cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Operating limits are 300°F maximum temperature. The series sees regular use in instrument and shop air conditioning, compressor discharge aftercooling, and small and mid-size compressor packages.
