Hot compressed air enters the tubes while cooling water counterflows through the shell, condensing moisture for removal downstream. Material selection covers cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Design ratings run to 300°F maximum temperature. Typical duty includes compressor discharge aftercooling, pneumatic tool and instrument air conditioning, and compressed air dryer pre-cooling. A floating rear tubesheet lets the bundle expand freely and pull for cleaning, and full-size air connections hold pressure drop down.
