A two-pass U-bend bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of TCS/TCW tank heater equipment in in-tank heating with boiler water in the tubes. The bundle mounts through a collar in the tank wall and heats the surrounding fluid by natural convection. Dimensionally it is a 8-inch shell unit, and roughly 16-1/4 inches overall in a 2-pass arrangement. That works out to about 11 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. Common applications are domestic water storage heating, hot water storage tanks, and hydronic-fed storage systems. This build is designated 5-275-08-018-001.
