Steam condenses in the single-pass shell while the heated fluid travels the tubes. The configuration measures 22 inches across the shell, 48-inch shell length, and roughly 76-7/8 inches overall in a 6-pass arrangement. That works out to about 298 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. That combination is cataloged as SU224-6. Standard construction uses cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. Typical duty includes swimming pool heating, instantaneous domestic water heating, and radiant panel and snow-melt converters.
