Steam condenses in the single-pass shell while the heated fluid travels the tubes. Dimensionally it is a 8-inch shell unit, 36-inch shell length, and roughly 41-3/8 inches overall in a 2-pass arrangement. That works out to about 23 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Material selection covers cast brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and brass tubesheets. Operating limits are 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. Common applications are instantaneous domestic water heating, swimming pool heating, and building comfort heating.
