Steam condenses in the single-pass shell while the heated fluid travels the tubes. Dimensionally it is a 8-inch shell unit, 24-inch shell length, and roughly 29-3/8 inches overall in a 2-pass arrangement. That works out to about 15 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Standard construction uses cast brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and brass tubesheets. Design ratings run to 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature.
