Built around a removable U-tube bundle, this configuration delivers liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling for demanding service. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Dimensionally it is a 28-inch shell unit, 96-inch shell length, and roughly 135-5/8 inches overall in a 4-pass arrangement. That works out to about 959 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. On the ratings side, expect 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. This build is designated WU288-4. Typical duty includes oil cooling and snow melting, pool and storage-tower heating, and hydronic HVAC converters.
