A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of SU/WU equipment in liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Its envelope centers on a 24-inch diameter shell, 48-inch shell length, and roughly 88-5/8 inches overall in a 4-pass arrangement. That works out to about 385 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Standard construction uses cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. Operating limits are 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. This build is designated WU244-4. Typical duty includes pool and storage-tower heating, oil cooling and snow melting, and hydronic HVAC converters.
