A removable U-tube bundle gives this configuration the thermal and mechanical margin expected of SU/WU equipment in liquid-to-liquid heating and cooling. Pumped boiler water circulates through the baffled shell against the tube-side fluid. Dimensionally it is a 14-inch shell unit, 72-inch shell length, and roughly 81-1/8 inches overall in a 4-pass arrangement. That works out to about 167 square feet of heat transfer surface on 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. Material selection covers cast iron or brass bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel or brass tubesheets. The unit is rated for 150 PSI on the shell side, 125 PSI on the tube side, and 300°F maximum temperature. Typical duty includes pool and storage-tower heating, oil cooling and snow melting, and condensate cooling. This build is designated WU146-44.
