Each tube is vented to atmosphere through a diamond-pattern air gap, so a failure in either wall reports itself outside the unit. Dimensionally it is a 10-inch shell unit, 72-inch shell length in a 4-pass arrangement. It carries 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper (double wall) tubes, and naval brass tubesheets. The unit is rated for 150 PSI on the shell side, 125 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. Common applications are glycol-to-potable loops, potable water heating and cooling, and process cooling where mixing cannot be tolerated.
