Each tube is vented to atmosphere through a diamond-pattern air gap, so a failure in either wall reports itself outside the unit. Its envelope centers on a 8-inch diameter shell, 60-inch shell length in a 6-pass arrangement. It carries 3/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper (double wall) tubes, and naval brass tubesheets. The unit is rated for 150 PSI on the shell side, 150 PSI on the tube side, and 375°F maximum temperature. The series sees regular use in glycol-to-potable loops, process cooling where mixing cannot be tolerated, and potable water heating and cooling.
