A fixed-tubesheet bundle gives 5-005-08-050-005 the thermal and mechanical margin expected of ACFR aftercooler equipment in compressed air aftercooling. Compressed air passes through the tubes against cooling water in the baffled shell, and the tube interiors clean easily from either end. Dimensionally it is a 8-5/8-inch shell unit, 50-inch shell length, and roughly 50 inches overall in a 1-pass arrangement. That works out to about 49 square feet of heat transfer surface on 1/4-inch O.D. tubes. The build specifies cast iron bonnets, steel shell, copper tubes, and steel tubesheets. The unit is rated for 300°F maximum temperature. The series sees regular use in compressor discharge aftercooling, moisture and oil removal from plant air, and small and mid-size compressor packages.
